Film and media company Buffalo 8 has acquired worldwide rights to “Invaders from Proxima B,” the science fiction comedy from writer-director-star Ward Roberts (“Westworld,” “Agents of SHIELD”).

The cast also includes Samantha Sloyan (“The Fall of the House of Usher,” “The Haunting of Hill House,” “Midnight Mass”), Mike C. Nelson (“Shrinking,” “Black-ish”), Richard Riehle (“Office Space,” “Casino”), Jeremiah Birkett (“Black Cake,” “Euphoria”) and Sarah Lassez (“Nowhere,” “Lo”).

In the film, after a wise-cracking alien named Chuck (Roberts) crashes in the backyard, the Jankins family (Roberts, Sloyan) teams up with their new otherworldly friend to battle a dangerous array of pursuers.

“Invaders from Proxima B” was directed by Roberts from his own script. Roberts produced under his Drexel Box Productions outfit alongside Mike C. Nelson. The film had its world premiere at the Austin Film Festival.

The deal was negotiated between Nikki Stier Justice of Buffalo 8 and by Dan Fisher of Poppy Pictures on behalf of the filmmakers.

Stier Justice said: “’Invaders from Proxima B’ is a cinematic delight that Buffalo 8 is excited to bring home to audiences. It delivers a fresh and hilarious take on comedy while enchanting audiences with captivating puppetry.”

Roberts added: “We love Buffalo 8. Nikki and her team get our film, and its potential to reach a broad audience. We’re beyond excited to partner with them.”

Buffalo 8 is planning a summer VOD release for “Invaders from Proxima B.” The company acquired zombie comedy “As We Know It” late last year. Earlier in 2023, actor and producer Jonathan Lipnicki joined Buffalo 8 as an executive producer.
