Its launch coincides with AAPI Heritage Month, lending added resonance to this compelling narrative, which explores the path to self-discovery that is unique to the Asian diaspora, and celebrates the imperfections of familial relationships.

Produced by Journey West Pictures and Screaming In My Pillow Productions, “B-Side: For Taylor” is written and directed by Christina YR Lim. The film follows the story of Taylor, a 14-year-old Korean-American adoptee, who embarks on a journey of self-discovery when a Korean family unexpectedly moves in next door, leading her to uncover her roots and the whereabouts of her birth family.

Director and writer Christina YR Lim draws from her own experiences growing up in an interracial family in the American suburbs, infusing the film with authenticity and emotional depth. Lim shares,”This film is a passion project inspired by my own upbringing of being raised by a stepparent while being estranged from my family and heritage in Korea. It explores the delicate balance of identity, family, and belonging.”

“B-Side: For Taylor” boasts a talented cast including Esther Moon (“Minari,” “Partner Track”), James Kang (“Ms. Purple,” “Players”), Teddy Lee (“Ms. Purple,” “Kiss of the Rabbit God”), Jeannine Vargas (“Sweet 15,” “Fever”), Dave Huber (“Pink Opaque,” “Back in the No”), and Jacky Jung (“Joseon’s Bride,” “Sweet & Sour”).

The film has garnered attention at prestigious film festivals including Cinequest Film Festival, RiverRun International Film Festival (where Jacky Jung received the Special Jury Award for Outstanding Supporting Performance), LA Asian Pacific Film Festival, CAAMFest, Cinema Columbus (where it won the Best Narrative Feature award), Nòt Film Festival, Catalina Film Festival, and Footcandle Film Festival (where it was named Audience Favorite Feature Film).

Lim expresses her pride in the film’s AAPI representation both on and off-screen, stating, “As a Korean-American filmmaker, I am proud to lead a team of AAPI creatives in all key roles, and to showcase a cast that authentically reflects our story.”
